Adobe will buy Figma for 20 billion USD

The cash-and-stock transaction will give Adobe control of a company whose web-based collaborative platform for design and ideation is frequently used by Internet firms such as Zoom Video Communications, Airbnb, and Coinbase. Shantanu Narayen, CEO of Adobe, called Figma's business the future of work and said there were tremendous prospects in merging it with his company's other products, such as document reader Acrobat and online whiteboard Figjam.

The 20 billion USD exit was a significant victory for Figma's venture capital backers, who included Index Ventures, Greylock Partners, and Kleiner Perkins. This collaboration will provide Figma users with access to Adobe's photography, illustration, and video capabilities in a single location. In exchange, Figma can contribute its extensive knowledge of constructing in the browser. Investors were less thrilled, causing the company's shares to fall 17%. Many of them said they understood the concept, but thought Adobe spent too much for a business that was valued at approximately 10 billion USD in a private funding round a little more than a year ago.
