Britain forces combat against online scams

The government added that law on preventing online harms would include the requirement for large platforms to improve protection from criminals impersonating celebrities or any bug companies to steal personal data.

Regulator Ofcom will check platforms, if they have added systems to prevent and remove this kind of advertisement as it is agreed. If companies will not oblige, they can block the services and/or issue a fine of up to 24 million dollars or 10% of annual turnover.

During lockdown because of Covid-19, the number of online scams got bigger, as people were more engaged in digital world. In the first six months, there is recorded that around 750 million pounds were stolen just in this period, which was more than a third boost from the beginning of 2020, before the pandemic started.
