While the deal could be valued at approximately 50 billion USD based on Airbus list prices, industry analysts estimate the actual value to be significantly lower due to standard industry discounts for bulk purchases. Additionally, Airbus and Boeing are engaged in separate discussions to sell 25 wide-body jets to IndiGo. IndiGo, already a major customer of Airbus with a large existing order, is actively securing aircraft supplies ahead of anticipated shortages. Turkish Airlines also made headlines with a potential order for 600 jets, but no immediate deal was expected at the IATA meeting.
Indian carriers now have the second-largest order book globally, representing over 6% of the industry backlog, second only to the United States. The airline aims to double its capacity by the end of the decade and increase its presence in international markets. IndiGo has formed codeshare partnerships with several airlines, including Turkish Airlines, American Airlines, and KLM. Its alliance with Turkish Airlines has enabled IndiGo to expand its operations to 33 European airports, including the use of its first wide-body aircraft, a Boeing 777, provided by Turkish Airlines along with their pilots.
