Another notable deal was Broadcom's $61 billion buyout of VMware. This deal is under scrutiny by the European Commission, as Broadcom could thus control the production of certain hardware and thus destroy competition in this area of the market.

One cannot help but mention the significant long-planned buyout of the social network Twitter by billionaire Elon Musk for 44 billion dollars. Since October, the social network has been under his chaotic management and Musk himself has been looking for a replacement as CEO. Twitter was bought with Tesla shares, which caused a drastic drop in their value of up to 69.2% for 2022.

The fourth deal on this list is the buyout of Continental Resources by its founder Harold Hamm, making it a private company. This deal was done at a valuation of $27 billion, $70 a share.

Last but not least, is Amgen's $26 billion, or $116.5 per share, buyout of Horizon Threapeutics, which took place in December. This represents Amgen's largest acquisition and caused Horizon's stock to rise more than 15%.
