The FAA announced that departures at Newark and Atlanta airports have resumed because of air traffic congestion in those locations. They anticipate that departures at other airports will resume at 9 a.m. ET. Flights that were already in the air were permitted to carry on to their destinations.

According to press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre, US President Joe Biden has been briefed on the FAA system failure. There is currently no proof of a cyber-attack, but the president has requested an inquiry, she added. The FAA stated that it was attempting to re-establish a system that notifies pilots to risks and changes to airport infrastructure and procedures that had ceased processing current data. According to Cirium statistics, a total of 21,464 planes with a carrying capacity of roughly 2.9 million people are scheduled to depart airports in the United States on Wednesday. With 4,819 flights booked, American Airlines has the most departures from US airports, followed by Delta Air Lines and Southwest Airlines.
