According to Qin Lihong, a NIO co-founder, the company wants to create 1,000 battery swapping stations outside of China by 2025, the majority of which will be in Europe, to serve the extended range of EVs it will begin selling this year in Germany and other regions.
This month, NIO launched its first international facility in Hungary to produce power items such as battery switching stations, which are expensive to ship from China because to their size. The separation of the battery, the most expensive component of the EV, from ownership is at the heart of NIO's strategy to entice European vehicle consumers. NIO's battery swap stations also claim to provide drivers with a fresh, fully charged battery in a matter of minutes, which is far faster than existing charging options.
NIO has been experimenting with battery leasing and swapping in Norway for its ES8, an electric-drive SUV, during the last year. The business has sold 800 of the SUVs and constructed two exchanging stations in Norway. NIO will begin selling various models in Europe this year.
