Research has shown, that 90% of people in Japan are regularly watching anime, while in the rest of the world anime is followed by around 50% of Netflix subscribers. Its biggest rivals Amazon and Disney also joined the race to offer more of this kind of content. Netflix decided to step up the business in Asia-Pacific part, because it was the brightest point in first quarter reports. Kaata Sakamoro, the vice president of content for Japan, said that they are not just increasing the content investment just in volume, but also in variety of different genres.
After Netflix reported the loss of subscribers for the first time in a decade, company was trying to find ways to increase the number of subscribers around the world. First measure to be taken was the password sharing limitation, with which they would ask a subscriber to pay additional amount for any person that is watching Netflix outside the household. Tests will take place in South America, and the price for the additional viewer is now set between 2 and 3 dollars, depending on location.
