Ford will have 4,000 data points available for tracking via modems it is installing in all commercial
vehicles from 2019. The service offers the benefit of being able to alert paying customers to engine
issues and basic problems such as low oil levels. In today's world, data is essential for all companies.
It is also important for manufacturers of commercial vehicles, where competition is becoming fierce
with electric models, which are essentially computers on wheels.
In the beginning, companies like Ford and Tesla focused mainly on the production of the EVs
themselves, but today it turns out that using data to show where the vans are, how they are
consuming fuel, how drivers are using them or misusing them, whether they can skip an oil change,
is just as important.
