Nord Stream 2 in trouble

Project Nord Stream 2 has to supply natural gas from Russia to Germany along the bottom of the Baltic Sea. According to Gazprom, which is the main investor in the project, the pipeline is 94 percent complete. It remains to lay about 150 kilometres of pipelines in two parallel lines (75 kilometres on each line).

Russian gas giant Gazprom has recently admitted that construction could be halted or canceled due to various difficulties. The reason is that German environmental organizations have appealed against a decision by the German Federal Office for Shipping and Hydrography (BSH) authorizing the earlier resumption of construction of the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline in German waters.

Other difficulties have been encountered in recent days by the controversial Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline project. In the meantime, several companies, most recently a Swiss insurance company, withdrew from the project due to fears of US sanctions.

Gazprom admitted that the risk that the $11 billion project will be halted or canceled due to various problems, including political pressure.
